This Week in Addiction News

Despite some conflicting headlines, the National Institute on Drug Abuse gives a synopsis of this year’s drug use among teens and young adults. The news seems to be mostly encouraging; most drugs, including the most dangerous synthetic ones, are on the decline.

An “antibody” for methaphetamine is now is human trials. While this will hopefully keep users from feeling the high of the drug, it is far too early to know whether it will also work to reduce cravings. It’s my opinion that one without the other won’t get very far in decreasing addiction.

In unsurprising news, we learn this week that, in addition to susceptibility to addiction having a genetic component, resistance to it does as well.

And, finally, your weekly reminder that there is a lot of money depending on keeping and getting people addicted.

We here at BACA wish you all happy, healthy, and safe holidays, and a joyful New Year!
